Marcelito is 2! - Part 2

Part 2 - The Cake

I have to admit, I didn't try very hard this year. I wanted the party to be easy and cheap. For his cake, I just made a racetrack shaped cake and plopped a McQueen on top. It was kind of sad looking, but I don't think Celo minded one bit. Celo about to blow out the candle that had already been blown out by the wind.
And now he's trying to eat it.
Diego giving his little brother big birthday hugsWhy is he making this face?Oh yeah, because he's trying to eat the icing off the candle.

Crazy kid.

Marcelito is 2! - Part 1

We recently had a little family get-together for Celo's 2nd birthday. It was just grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins. Celo was happy to have all of his family together in the same place.

My little baby is officially in the terrible twos. (As if he hasn't been in that stage for the past 8 months.)

Here is his celebration in pictures: Part 1 - The Pool

Diego the photographer

I usually guard my camera with my life. My boys know that they will see Spazz Mom if they touch it. But a few weeks ago, I made an exception and decided to let Diego try to take some pictures. Under close supervision, of course. He loved it. I picked the settings and then he clicked away, as fast as the camera would let him. Clickclickclickclickclickclickclick. I had a lot of pictures to delete afterwards.

We started our little photoshoot with me taking silly pictures of him, and then he turned the camera on me and told me to do all the same things I had asked him to do. "Mommy make a happy face. A crazy face, " and so on. Here are some pictures from our shoot. Amazingly, he did an awesome job! I didn't crop them, so here they are as is:

Here are a few more of Diego's many faces. From left to right they are:

Diego's Hair

First thing this morning, I sent Diego to the bathroom while I got his breakfast ready. When he came out, his hair was all wet.

Me: Diego, did you put water in your hair?
Diego: Yes.
Me: Why?
Diego: Because I want it to look nice and stay down. It's not staying down.

(It's true. He got a haircut last night and had a major cowlick this morning.)

Um, since when is he old enough to care what his hair looks like??

Invisible

I think I may have been invisible today.

I went to the doctor and stood at the registration desk for oh, 6 minutes or so. The lady looked straight at me (or through me?) and kept doing what she was doing. I stood there shifting my weight and giving her the evil eye, while she continued to look up in my direction every few minutes before going back to whatever it was that was soooo important.

Eventually I gave up and looked for someone else who could give me some assistance. A kind lady ended up helping me. This doctor's appointment of mine was a DEXA scan. For those of you who aren't in their 70s like me, a DEXA scan is a bone density scan that checks for osteoperosis. They were checking me because of my recent bone fractures. I was the youngest person in the entire building.

Anyway, after my appointment I ran into the grocery store. I grabbed the 2 items I needed, went to an empty check-out line, and was again completely ignored!!

This is when I started worrying that only certain people could actually see me.

The girl had her little light on and was clearly not helping anyone else. Still, she just stood there, looked over my shoulder, then turned her back as if to say, "Go away. I'm not helping you." I did as her back told me to, and went to another line and checked out.

So this is my message to the customer service world today: If someone is standing in front of you, patiently waiting for their turn, just say, "I'll be with you in a minute." Or SOMETHING. Acknowledge their existence. If you cannot be with them in a moment, let them know where to go to receive assistance.

Thank you.

I guess I should also acknowledge the fact that I am a mouse. I could have spoken up in both situations. But I didn't. I just stood there like a little mouse. It's like I have a fear that speaking up for myself will automatically make me sound rude. It's actually quite ridiculous. I really need to get over that.

While I try to work on that, I'll just passively-aggressively get out my frustrations here. Okay? Okay.

Oh and I won't know my results for another week or so. Fingers crossed that I just have bad luck and not something serious.

Diegoisms and Celoisms

I haven't been able to blog lately because life has been busy. My computer time must be used strictly for working purposes. Okay, not strictly. I check facebook. And a few other sites I love. But I can't blog! PLUS, since my tailbone is still in recovery, I can't sit for long periods of time.

Lately, Celo and Diego have said some funny things, and my dad suggested I write them down before I forget, so here I am. "Writing them down."

Diego: Mommy, where's Tato? (My dad.)
Me: He's playing golf.
Diego: When I'm older, I want to play golf like Tato. When I'm older and have no hair like Tato."
Me: (Cracking up.)
Diego: What? Tato has no hair.

Me: Celo, we're going to do something fun today.
Celo: Fun Tata's house! (He's obsessed with going to Tata's house.)
Me: Is that all you think about??
Celo: Tink about Tata's car.

No mom, I don't just think about her house. I think about her car. I think about her face. I think about her backyard. You can't fight a love like theirs.

Some more:
  • Lately, we've had a lot of rain. Every single time it starts to rain, Celo screams, "It's waining again!"
  • Diego is in love with windshield wipers. Whenever it looks like it's going to rain, he gets so excited and says, "We're going to have to turn on our wipers!" One day, he told my mom that the reason it rains is because "Heavenly Father wants everyone to turn on their wipers."
  • Celo is constantly saying that things are "kerfect". (Perfect.) He says it at the weirdest times. One day, we were driving through my in-laws' neighborhood, and someone had put some trees on the side of the road. Marcelo pulled over to push the trees out of the road so no one would hit them. As soon as he finished situating them so they weren't in the road, Celo said, "Dere. It's kerfect." Also, when I finish putting his shoes on him, he looks at his feet and says, "Dere. It's kerfect." He says it for everything.
  • We were playing a boardgame the other night at my aunt's house and Diego was watching us. My cousin wrote Diego's name down as "Jegs" which is one of his nicknames. I said, "Diego, your name is on the board!" He looked at it all confused and then said, "But Mommy, Diego is D-I-E-G-O."
  • Celo has changed Diego's name so many times in the past few months. He's been Kay-ko, Chay-cho, Jay-go, and now he's D-go.
  • The boys got to hang out with Tio Dabit for the past week and a half. But he is no longer Tio Dabit. He's Tio David to Diego, and D-bad to Celo.
  • Celo likes to say, "Don't DO dat!" It's cute and obnoxious all at the same time.

But isn't that how kids are at this age? Cute and obnoxious all at the same time. :)

Fireworks

We had a great 4th of July. My brother David surprised us by driving down the day before. He'll be here for another week. We got to spend his birthday with him for the first time in 6 years!

We spent the evening at my in-laws' house eating barbeque and praying that the fireworks wouldn't get rained out. At 9, we went to our usual spot to watch the sky get lit up. It's a place by the river, and it gets crowded really quickly. Diego was a little scared by the noise but he tried hard to be tough. He would laugh and say, "Hahaha, that one scared me a little bit. Hahaha." Celo on the other hand, acted like he watches fireworks everyday. Every once in awhile he would say, "A wocket!" A rocket.

For the first time ever, I got some good fireworks shots. Click on the image to see it better.

Here are a few over the river.
